Loretta Matters joins DUHS Department of Advanced Clinical Practice as Part-Time Director of Duke NICHE

Loretta Matters, MSN, RN, Associate Director of DUSON’s Center of Excellence in Geriatric Nursing has joined the DUHS Department of Advanced Clinical Practice as the part-time Director of Duke NICHE (Nurses Improving the Care for Healthsystem Elders). Duke NICHE represents a successful academic-practice partnership model between a health system and a university-based school of nursing that aims to improve care of older adults by enhancing the expertise of front-line nursing staff and accelerating the implementation of evidence-based care approaches. Matters has been involved in the Duke NICHE program since its inception in 2006, when as Director of Duke HomeCare and Hospice Patient Care Services and Nursing Practice she was a founding member of the Duke NICHE Executive Council. Matters transferred to the Duke University School of Nursing in 2008 to serve as the Associate Director of the newly launched Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, and has served as the School’s liaison to the Duke NICHE program since that time. She will now assume the Director’s role as well, and continue to support the many activities of the Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence.
